Advanced Screening

Advanced Screening is a romantic drama written specifically for teenagers and their families about the issues and problems that come up when young and inexperienced people are in serious relationships. The narrative is a fast paced episode based story revolving around a group of friends in year 12 on the verge of finishing school as they deal with the minefield of the future and their relationships after school.

The first production of Advanced Screening was our first attempt to integrate video in the live performance. It featured a small 2x2m screen above the stage area and displayed intro and outro sequences. It premiered in October 2002 at The Dance North Theatre in Townsville. The young audiences who attended the near sell out season reacted very positively to the story and the visuals. The show was commended as the most outstanding project for 2002 by the Thuringowa RADF committee.

2004 saw Markwell Presents move to Brisbane with a new production of Advanced Screening at the Visy Theatre, Brisbane Powerhouse in May. This time we had a much larger screen placed behind the stage action. The young audiences were captivated by the energy of the show, creating a concert atmosphere. The season was supported by Arts Queensland.

In 2005 we created a new digitally enhanced thematic production of Advanced Screening at the Judith Wright Centre in October.

In 2006 the 4th production of Advanced Screening was presented out west, at the Ipswich Civic Hall in May.

In 2010 we re-wrote Advanced Screening again to introduce some new characters and a create a computer generated school landscape for the setting of the production. Presented at the Brisbane Powerhouse, Visy Theatre in July.
